Meet 26-year-old Leslie Vigliani born in Evian (yes, where the water comes from) in the French Alps. As much as she loves makeup, by no means considers it something that everyone should be interested in nor using it.

“Makeup should be something to have fun with and above all, to be free with (or without!)”

Q.What does your beauty routine look like?

Makeup: Some days I wear more makeup than others, but if I had to summarize my everyday routine I would say:

  • Primer: My favourites are the Smashbox Photo Finish Smooth & Blur Primer and Smashbox Primerizer. I know that for many people this is not part of their routine and honestly when I began experimenting with makeup I was wearing primer only for special occasions. Since then I’ve learned so much about primers, and now that I have started and have experienced how it changes everything, I can’t do away with a primer.
  • Foundation: I use the Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation and apply it with a Beauty Blender. I love this foundation because it’s full coverage, but it doesn’t look cakey at all and still has some sort of radiant finish. A little bit goes a long way, so I don’t apply much but it’s enough to perfectly even out my skin.
  • Concealer: I currently use Maybelline Age Rewind concealer which I find very good, but I also love the Nars Creamy Radiant Concealer. Tarte Shape Tape is good as well, but I don’t use it for everyday makeup. I apply concealer in a triangle shape below my eye area and blend it out with a Beauty Blender.
  • Eyebrows: I always fill my brows with a pencil, I find it more precise but natural at the same time. I love the Smashbox Brow Tech Matte Pencil, Benefit Precisely My Brow and Kat Von D’s Signature Brow Precision.
  • Setting powder: I used to hate using loose powder and now I use it every day. I use it to set my concealer and mattify my T-Zone, simply applying with a brush and buffing it onto my skin. I’ve just finished my Too Faced Peach Perfect Setting Powder and I loved it! Now I might give the Huda Beauty Easy Bake Loose Powder a try.
  • Contour and Blush: For every day I use the Smashbox Cali Contour Palette. This palette has everything – blush, contour and highlighter. I apply a mix of contour and bronzy shades below my cheekbones and on the side of my nose. I’d normally put some on my forehead too, but I currently have a fringe so it’s hiding it 😉 . Then a bit of blush on the apples of my cheeks.
  • Mascara: I’m trying a lot of different ones, but I haven’t found my one and only yet. I’m currently using Maybelline Colossal Mascara.
  • Lipstick: My go-to shade is ‘Icon’ in the Huda Beauty Liquid Lipstick range. But I own tons of lipsticks so I keep changing it every day 😀

Skincare: In the morning I apply some toner with a cotton pad, then I apply a serum, preferably hydrating, and a moisturizer in a gel/lightweight texture. I have an under eye cream but I must admit I often skip it. I’m trying a lot of different skincare product, but at the moment I use Glamglow Supertoner, Darphin Intral Redness Relief Soothing Serum, Darphin Hydraskin Light, Glamglow Brighteyes/ Last but not least some lip balm: I cannot live without lip balm, I have this very annoying habit of eating my lips if I have nothing on it, so I constantly need to have some lip balm with me. Currently, I use either Glossier Balm Dotcom or Fresh Sugar Caramel lip balm.

Even at night I try to remember to apply eye contour but I often skip this step. I guess that when I’ll start seeing those wrinkles I’ll be more consistent.

At night I follow the double cleansing method. I remove my makeup with an oil-based product (an oil or a balm, currently using Clinique Take the Day Off and it’s amazing!), and then I follow with a water-based cleanser (currently using Glossier Milky Jelly cleanser, it leaves your skin so soft!). Twice a week I replace the water-based cleanser by an exfoliating cleanser. Sometimes for my eye makeup, I use the Biphasic eye makeup remover with a cotton pad. Then I apply a serum (Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair) and a night cream that is a bit richer than what I use during the day (currently using Estée Lauder Revitalizing supreme light). Even at night, I try to remember to apply eye cream but I often skip this step. I guess that when I’ll start seeing those wrinkles I’ll be more consistent. Apart from this, I mask once every week or once every two weeks depending on what my skin needs: Glamglow Supermud when I get impurities (you know, that time of the month), Glamglow Youthmud or Flashmud when my skin is dull and in need of some glow. When I spend a lot of time under the sun or if I wore heavy makeup, I like to use a hydrating sheet mask to make it plump and soft.

Haircare: Very simple: shampoo and conditioner every 3 days (sometimes if it gets critical or not aligned with my schedule I can shorten to 2, but I try not washing my hair too often and I use dry shampoo in between), hair oil on damp hair after I wash it, and nourishing mask or argan oil once a week/once every two weeks. I still avoid using hot styling tool as much as possible, and I get the tips of my hair cut every 3 to 4 months. The other 2 things that have helped me so much with my hair routine are 1the Tangle Teezer (it’s amazing, my hair is very long but thin, so it’s a nightmare to detangle I was always spending a minimum of 30 minutes to detangle my hair before. Now it takes me 10 minutes) and the Dyson hairdryer (I know, it’s expensive and I got it as a gift, but it’s a life changer and worth the investment).

Q. What would be your one highly recommended beauty product, hack, service or DIY that you think everyone should give a shot?

I cut my hair according to the phase of the moon. Google it! It’s a thing, and I’ve stuck to it over the past 6 years.”

Oh, there’s so many! But I think that everyone is always asking me how I manage to keep my hair so long. What I do is that I cut my hair according to the phase of the moon. Google it! It’s a thing, and I’ve stuck to it over the past 6 years. Everyone is laughing at me when I tell them but my answer is always that “worst-case scenario, it does nothing, so give it a try 😊”.

Q. Imagine your dream beauty product that currently does not exist. Why this product and what would you want it to do for you?

I have good skin texture, but I have a very irregular skin tone: redness on the cheeks and sides of the nose, dark circles… My wish would be to have a product that could truly and visibly even my skin tone without it being a foundation.

Q.Anything else that you would like to share with the Basic Beauty Broadcaster community?

Don’t take beauty and makeup too seriously. Taking care of yourself should come easy and make you happy. Don’t over complicate yourself or be pressured by what people say. Do what you think is best for you and what makes you feel good. Hear recommendations and advice, look for information, and then make your own opinion about it. Also, makeup is not mandatory. I always feel very sad when some of my friends tell me “no but compared to you I suck at makeup”, “don’t laugh at me I don’t know what this is for”, or also when people feel the need to justify themselves “yes sorry I look shit I have no makeup on”.
