Broadcaster Verdict: If I had to describe Ruby Woo in one line then it is undoubtedly the best red lipstick I have ever tried!
Ruby Woo and I go way back, I remember when I was 18 my mom took me to a department store and told me she would buy me my first lipstick. Until then I was only using all the shades mom already owned. I went to at least 6-7 makeup counters and tried over 40 shades to try and find something I loved. The last counter I went to was MAC Cosmetics, I had heard about this brand and knew it was big internationally but also knew it was expensive. The first lipstick I tried there was Ruby Woo and I absolutely fell in love with how it looked and how it made me feel. I told the sales lady to give me some time to just walk around with the shade and see how it looked after a while (I was also stalling because I knew it was expensive and red shades are a little intimidating so to speak, so I wanted to be absolutely sure). About an hour later I remember I was nervous but I went back in with my mom and purchased it. I FINALLY HAD MY FIRST OWN LIPSTICK – RUBY WOO.

There are several reasons I still love this lipstick:

  • The red colour looks good on any skin tone and I love how it looks on me and the texture is super matte and long-wearing. But it’s also not too drying on the lips.
  • When I wear this shade it makes me feel confident, independent, sexy. I feel like I can own the world. There are days I feel really bummed out when I wake up and those are the days I put my Ruby Woo on to make myself feel like I have control and I can power through the day.

I still wear it to every first interview I have and for a date night too! It’s a lipstick shade that definitely gets a 10/10 for me. I am 27 years today and for the last 9 years, this shade has consistently been my go-to lipstick shade. If one Ruby Woo wasn’t enough, my makeup stash always has 2 Ruby Woo’s at any given point. It’s definitely a HOLY GRAIL and I think everyone should own this shade.

Broadcaster Verdict: MAC Ruby Woo is the Queen of all red lipsticks. It’s the best red lipstick in the entire world (possibly the entire universe). Ruby Woo is a perfect neutral red which means it’s neither too cool, nor too warm. It will suit all skin tones – pale, fair, wheatish, brown and black. This is a red made to complements every skin tone that exists on earth.

Formula and Texture: True to its claim, it has a VERY matte formula. You will have to swipe the lipstick hard to get the colour onto your lips. The texture is very similar to a lip pencil but only more satiny and smooth.

Staying Power: Because of its very matte formula, MAC Ruby Woo stays on for a very long time: 6-7 hours easily. It will survive all your meals. It does not bleed or transfer.

Fragrance: It has the classic MAC vanilla fragrance

  • A perfect, true red lipstick that will complement all skin tones.
  • Will make your teeth look whiter.
  • Lasts up to 6 hours without bleeding or transferring,
  • Survives all meals.
  • On my lips, the colour looks subtly different in different lights. Indoors, in cool lighting, it looks like a deeper, cooler shade of red. In the sunlight, it looks like a brighter, warmer shade of red. The colour complements my complexion.

  • Since its such a matte formula, it can be difficult to get smooth edges around the corners of your lips.
  • After about 6 hours, it starts settling in lines if your lips are very dry.

For me, Mac Ruby Woo is a HOLY GRAIL. If you are on a budget and want to buy only one MAC lipstick, then buy MAC Ruby Woo. Even if you are not a red lipstick kind of a person, this lipstick will convert you.
