PCOS Skincare Guide by Maimoonah

Dentist by degree, procrastinator by profession. Trying to flex my makeup skills on the gram and IRL.’ That’s how Maimoonah, our Broadcaster in Spotlight describes herself. While she loves, and we mean LOVES makeup (just have a look at her IG handle and you’ll know what mean), post PCOS, her focus has definitely shifted on to skincare a lot more. She’s become more mindful of what she puts on her skin, and definitely has seen a difference, as opposed to blindly packing stuff on.

Read on to learn more about Maimoonah’s everyday PCOS friendly skincare routine.

Q. Out of Skincare, Haircare, Makeup and Body Care on which area (s) do you spend the most time, what is most important to you and why?

Oh gosh! skincare and makeup FOR SURE. Can range anywhere between 5 minutes to an hour (or more lol) depending on how I’m feeling that day. But post PCOS, my focus has definitely shifted on to skincare a lot more. I’ve become more mindful of what I put on my skin, and definitely seen a difference, as opposed to blindly packing stuff on. Product-wise, when it comes to both makeup and skincare, I don’t mind fussy products, I just don’t need them to feel heavy.

Q. Can you take us through your everyday beauty routine?

After my PCOS diagnosis, I became super mindful of what went on my skin. This involved cutting out exfoliating ingredients (AHAs and BHAs) for a while, and focusing more on spot treatment and keeping the skin barrier healthy. This meant including a lot of cica and ceramides in said routine.

During the day, I cleanse my face using the Conscious Chemist Ritual Face Cleanser. I follow it up with a Vitamin C serum (the new Conscious Chemist Vivid C Pro-Collagen Serum), and SUNSCREEEEEEEEEEEEEN! Please never ever EVER skip sunscreen, despite the weather and your mood (amen! to that sister)

My nighttime routine has a few more steps –

I also have multiple other favourites, which I alternate and use, depending on how I’m feeling about my skin. I use Tretinoin twice a week and go in with an AHA (currently loving the Conscious Chemist Porology Toner) once a week at night.

When it comes to makeup. I can write a thesis on it TBH (we plan to get Maimoonah to write that thesis very soon)

Q. What would be your one highly recommended beauty product, hack, service or DIY that you think everyone should give a shot?

Makeup – The Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer and The Too Faced Born This Way Foundation *cue heart eyes*

Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer: This primer changed my LIFE! It works fantastically with my dry skin, effectively giving it a shot of hydration, and the tacky finish grips foundation gorgeously into place. Of course, like any other product, it may or may not work for you. So definitely patch test before you go all in.

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation: LISTEN. Ever since I started using this foundation, I haven’t switched back to any of my older faves. Medium-full coverage and the finish is BEAUTIFUL. Doesn’t nudge, doesn’t oxidise, doesn’t fuss around. Seedhi baat, no bakwaas.

Skincare – any OTC (over the counter) retinol. Lifesaver that one.

Q. Imagine your dream beauty product that currently does not exist. Why this product and what would you really want it to do for you?

A tool that makes sure your eyeliners are in sync (we agree! its high time beauty industry, high time!)
